Taylor Swift Deck of Cards

During my EEP semester, I took on the task of creating a deck of cards themed around one of the most successful artist's of today's time, Taylor Swift. I utilized the themes throughout her life including lyrics, albums, outfits, awards, and pets as the components of her cards.

Design Objective: Create a set of cards that capture Taylor Swift as an artist and shows her style.

Current Branding

Taylor Swift utilizes the time periods between her albums or her “Eras” to brand herself. Her biggest branding changes came with her transition from one music genre to another. As of right now, her current branding highlights all of these eras and goes for a nostalgic feel.

Reference Images

All aspects of Taylor’s life are represented in these reference images. Despite being one of the most popular artists of our time, Taylor shares quite a bit about her life. Not only is she famous for her music, but her relationships and personality as well. These images create and represent a collection of all parts of her life.

Suit concepts

Hearts

For the heart suit, I decided to focus on the idea of utilizing various imagery to represent lyrics.

music notes

I also created a music note suit to represent Taylor’s songwriting. The music note suit showcases her first ten albums.

diamonds

For the diamond suit, I chose to represent some of the iconic outfits and costumes Taylor has worn.

face cards

The face cards were inspired by Taylor’s three cats. Her cats are a constant theme throughout her music and life.

stars

I created the star suit to better fit the theme of this deck of cards. The star suit shows the many awards that Taylor has won.

joker

The joker card is a play on Scooter Braun, the man who had ownership over all of Taylor’s music and refused to sell it to her.

refined concepts

To make the cards more cohesive, I found a universal way to display the number/letter, used a consistent color palette for each number/letter, added more elements, and expanded the background to be the suit.
